Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
You will write a 1300-to-1500-word policy brief on some issue facing the Minister of Finance as the government sets the budget. 3 sources from credible institutions to support your brief.
Your task is to write a brief, or policy piece, that YOU think the Minister of Finance should consider when preparing the federal budget. You might want to assume you are either writing a brief to the Finance Minister, or work in the Finance Minister’s research office and are preparing a background piece they will use in decisions about the budget. The federal budget is a blueprint for
the Government of Canada to follow as it details expenditure plans and taxation. You should pick an issue the Federal government has jurisdiction over and focus on that.
You should search for documents on the web that discuss the topics you choose to raise with the Minister. Visit the Government of Canada website, Statistics Canada’s website, or perhaps the Fraser Institute’s website as these sources will reveal lots of information on various aspects that relate to Canada’s budget. Searching for “Canadian Policy Think Tanks” will reveal
several possible sources for you to try and find background information on your recommendations (or help you to form them).
