Write a routine message. Write a one-page letter, which is a request for a recommendation. Write the letter in block format and ask someone to write a letter for you that will help you attain a job you want. See Application 9.13 on p. 292 for additional information. You can write to a real or imaginary person, but include real details about a job you would potentially want to get. A one-page letter is approximately three paragraphs and includes a greeting and salutation as well as clear points in each paragraph. You should include a salutation and close/signature.
Be sure to consider visual elements like paragraphing, white space, bullet points, bold face—all of these things make a lasting impression.
