Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
The topic of this paper will be an in-depth analysis of a hate crime perpetrator. You will have the discretion to choose the offender for this paper. The requirements are as follows:
1.Introduce the perpetrator of the hate crime. Provide some details of his/her background.
2.Describe the crime that he/she committed.
3.Describe the legal aspects of the case:
1.What jurisdiction was the case adjudicated in, federal or state? If state, which one?
2.What actual law was the offender charged with? Was it a hate crime?
3.Did the offender plead guilty or was there a trial?
1.Apply a theory that helps explain why this offender did what he/she did. Use chapter 1 of your textbook and also the YouTube lecture that I posted. You only need to choose one. You can pick any theory that is mentioned in either of those sources, or you can choose a different one. If you do, please message me first to ensure that it is appropriate for this paper. I want you to:
1.Describe the theory that you are using. Make sure to include if it is considered a criminological, psychological, sociological, or even a biological theory (many theories are considered to be in more than one category).
2.Apply this theory to the offender that you chose. Describe how it explains his/her actions. Make sure to integrate facts of the case and the offender’s biography to support your claims.
5.Briefly summarize Jack Levin and Jack McDevitt’s typology that is explained in chapter 2 of the text. Does your offender fit into their motivation typology (thrill, defensive, reactive, mission). Why or why not?
Format:
Your essays should:
– be double spaced
– be in times new roman size 12 font
– be in APA format for in-text citations and reference section (at least 5 sources)
– be 1200 words minimum
– have an appropriate title
– use headings and subheadings for organization
Note about word count:
The 1200 word count requirement is relatively low for this assignment. Do not take this as guidance for how long your paper should be. In order to appropriately cover the components of this essay, I imagine will take many more words. In short: you will not be penalized for word count unless you are under 1200 words; however, you will likely need to write much more to successfully fulfill the requirements of the essay.
Tip:Choose a topic that you are interested in. Choose a case and offender that has been given a decent amount of media attention. The more information that exists on an offender, the easier this assignment will be.
