Problem-Based Learning Paper – Behavioral Science in Organizations
Topic: An in-depth managerial analysis of a problem in a selected organization that can be addressed using OB principles. Students will locate an article in the Wall Street Journal (provided free to students using through the WCU library) that describes a real-world organizational problem that can be addressed using OB principles.

What is the mission of the organization?
Define and assess the organization’s strategy.
Identify its customers and/or constituents; and its competitors.
Describe how the firm is organized.
Note the formal and informal structures.
How does the organization manage change?
What is the problem?
Define the specific problem as defined in the article.
Provide a brief discussion of situational factors that surround the problem (e.g. environmental conditions, laws, public opinion)
What OB principles relate to this problem?
Define the relevant OB principles
Discuss the relationship between the OB principles and the problem
Develop an action plan
How can the organization use these OB principles?
What mechanisms could the organization use to implement your suggestions (e.g. compensation changes, training, etc.)?
How will you do it? (These are examples…not requirements)
Review key employee bios
“Promotional” materials assessment (including web sites)
Industry analysis
Academic journal article analysis (check Google Scholar)
Deliverable
Written Report: Approximately 10-12 pages (default margins, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, double spaced, excluding cover page, bibliography, etc) with documented references and bibliography.
