Please prepare a 5-8 minute presentation on the performative tradition of abolitionist rhetoric that responds to the prompt below.Engage in a sustained discussion of an example of abolitionist rhetoric. You can select one of our texts from this unit (Douglass, Bell, or 1619) or any text of your choice including speeches, written works like articles and books, television or film, music, etc. Please let me know if you have questions about your selected text. You should seek and receive approval on your selected text from me before you present/record. Just ask me during class, office hours, or by email. Here is how you should organize your presentation: 1. Introduce your chosen text/artifact and tell us why you think it fits within the abolitionist performative tradition (1-2 minutes); 2. Apply a method, approach, attitude, or tool of rhetorical criticism to your chosen text/artifact (2-3 minutes); 3. Conclude with a robust discussion of how your chosen text/artifact has helped you better understand both the way that rhetoric works to promote social change and how the practice of rhetorical criticism can enliven your reading of important texts (2-3 minutes). EXTRA CREDIT: Any presentation that exceeds 8 minutes, provided it is of high quality (see criteria below) will receive consideration toward A+ work in the course.
