1) How did political turmoil in England impact colonial America? What explains the differences between the colonies in Virginia and New England? Were people in colonial America motivated more by economic interest or cultural values?
2) Describe and define the experiences of Native Americans, African Americans, and women in early American history, beginning with the conquest of the New World and ending with the Market Revolution. Which experiences were similar? Which were different? What do these experiences tell us about this period of American history, as a whole?
The midterm exam will consist of two essay questions. Your responses should be approximately 4 pages each (Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced). You should be submitting a document of at least 8 pages. The standard rules regarding writing style, punctuation, and grammar apply. In-text Citation style is up to you (MLA preferred but I’ll accept APA). Very important: Please do not do any outside research or readings for this mid-term. Additionally, you do not need a Works Cited page. Use the sources we’ve explored in class (American Yawp; primary sources; and videos) and cite in-text, as has been expected.
