Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
Intro
L3 assignment 1
Overview
To apply the information we have explored regarding health and safety practices, we will put our knowledge to practice through a choice assignment. This assignment is a field-based option that asks you to observe an early childhood education setting according to a health and safety checklist.
By completing this assignment, you are demonstrating your achievement of lesson learning outcomes (LO) 1 and 2. Estimated time on activity: 2 hours.
Instructions
To complete the field-based observation option, contact a local family home child care provider or a child care and education program to discuss with the program director the health and safety requirements of the program. As part of the visit, you need to request and arrange to tour the facility to conduct a health and safety observation. If you are employed in an early childhood setting, you may use your place of employment to complete the assignment. Plan on spending about 1 hour on site for the discussion and observation.
Use the Health and Safety Inspection worksheet to collect data for this field-based observation.
After completing the observation worksheet, complete the 3-2-1 reflection (either on the worksheet as directed or in a separate Word document file). The 3-2-1 reflection asks you to identify the following:
3 new things you were not aware of regarding health and safety issues in the classroom
2 questions you may have regarding the necessity of these health and safety regulations
1 health- or safety-related issue about which you would like to know more information
Assignment 2
Overview and Purpose
The purpose of keeping a learning log (a type of journal) is to give you a place to reflect on and write about your learning in this class. With regular entries in your learning log, you will see patterns and preferences about how you are integrating knowledge about child development, a sense of professionalism, and learning about developmentally appropriate strategies that support teaching and learning with young children into your own identity as an EC professional.
This is YOUR journal, so make it meaningful to you!
Answer the essential questions posted for EACH lesson to help guide and focus your thinking about information from each lesson.
Questions
What are some health and safety regulations that need to be followed in ECE, and why?
What defines quality in early childhood education?
Write a response to the essential questions in each lesson in 2-5 sentences.
What are your views or interpretations around these questions? Write down any additional questions you may have at this time.
Include the definitions of terms or vocabulary that you are asked to know about. You may add any other new vocabulary words to support your personal learning.
Provide justification and evidence of your learning (HINT: Connect your reflections to course material and learning outcomes. Don’t forget to cite your sources of information!)
