Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
Introduce the controversy to the reader. Provide some background to orient the reader to the controversy. Analyze why the controversy remains unresolved. Show why the topic is important for the public and perhaps to you in particular
Back to the paper at hand. In this essay you will need to present the topic question and any relevant background information that a person would need to understand the issue and its complexity. You may use some of your sources for this, but I am not expecting quotations and think that the essay will be more effective if you explain everything in your own words. In addition to providing any necessary background (e.g., definitions, dates, people, etc.), the essay should contain sections in which you discuss the importance of the topic and the importance of its resolution for society and perhaps you personally. Usually, that section goes well at the end of the essay since it will make readers want to read the next papers in the sequence. Most of the body paragraphs of the essay will provide your insight on why this controversy has not yet been resolved to date. Why do people hold such contrasting opinions on the controversy and view the issues so differently? You should not have any sources here; I want to hear why you think the topic has no easy answers without ever telling readers which side you think may be “right.” Remember, this paper will not contain both sides’ arguments—instead, you are analyzing why they don’t see the subject matter similarly.
The essay won’t have a conventional thesis, but you should take care to include an engaging introduction, title and conclusion (though make sure that you do not resolve the issue in your conclusion; instead, include a “cliff hanger,” making the reader want to read through three more papers to resolve the issue). Remember to stay objective throughout the paper!
