In this essay, you will select an event from Chapter 7 and explain how it contributed to the period of intense ideological competition during the Cold War.
Complete the following steps to develop your essay:
1. Choose one U.S. intervention from Chapter 7 that relates to the Cold War. Gather details and compare facts as you
begin your research.
2. From your research findings, choose one visual or print primary source that addresses controversy or differences of opinion regarding your chosen event. Appropriate visual primary sources include posters, political cartoons, paintings, film clips, and propaganda.
3. From your research findings, choose two appropriate scholarly sources. Your sources may include print primary
sources, which is an account, item, or data generated in the historical period by a participant or witness. Print primary
sources also include parts of speeches, debates, and newspaper editorials.
4. Draw conclusions from the comparison and the range of opinion reflected in your research. Summarize how your
chosen United States intervention relating to the Cold War contributed to the period of intense ideological competition during the Cold War.
5. Prepare a thesis statement. Your thesis statement should offer your reader your specific insight into the outcomes
and perspectives on the event you considered.
Use the following guidelines to help decide on your thesis statement: Ensure that your thesis relates the event to the
ideological conflict inherent in the Cold War. Ask yourself what the event suggests about changes in the nature and scope of the Cold War in this period. Ask yourself whether the event resulted in greater tensions between the USSR, the US, and/or other peoples around the globe. Ask yourself how the primary source (visual or print) was shaped by its time and environment. Ask yourself how the primary source reflects a range of views, debates, and/or controversies within the Cold War ideological conflict.
Your essay must be at least two pages in length. Please adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment. APA formatting, however, is not necessary.
