Assignment Overview
The goal of the assignment is for the student to identify a core area of challenge related to victimization. As such as students are to choose one of the following topic areas:
Elder Abuse
Intimate Partner Violence
Stalking
Child Abuse/Victimization
Sexual Abuse
Homicide Victims
Hate Crime Victims
After choosing ONE of the above topic areas students need to then collect 7 to 10 sources-these sources should be empirical/peer reviewed articles or government reports (e.g., FBI, BJS), or professional publications (e.g., The Police Chief). They SHOULD NOT be: Wikipedia, general websites, articles from general readership magazines (e.g., TIME).
Students then need to prepare their paper. This includes a cover page in APA format, an abstract, an Introduction, a literature review (where you summarize the findings of the articles/publications you collect and provide a critique of existing programs), outline the program you would develop or modify, write a conclusion, then present your references in APA format.
The total paper (including cover and reference page) should be between 10 and 12 pages total.

in our primary lectures, textbooks, and additional readings (you are free to incorporate other sources as well, just be sure to provide appropriate APA citations).
The paper is overall fairly brief and needs to be focused. There is NOT room for quotes and filler (which is why we have a 0 quote limit rule—see above). The paper (not counting cover and references is to be between 10 and 12 double spaced pages, in size 12, Times New Roman font. The idea here is to set parameters similar to what you would have with professional writing (such as a grant application).
The below style sheet provides more detail on exactly what is expected in the assignment.
Please note the paper is to be written in APA format, you are not to include first person phrasing, e quotes (see the above 0 quote per paper rule), do not include bullet points, ‘texting’ abbreviations (e.g., 4 u 2 c), and you are NOT allowed to submit the same paper as another group or student (even if you are doing the same topic. If you are completely ‘lost’ with this assignment it is strongly advised contact with the professor, raise questions in class, and consult the writing center for assistance.
