Watch Melanie Funchess’s “Implicit bias- how it affects us and how we push through it” and summarize the content. Define implicit bias and describe the ways it impacted Funchess’s life. Explain how implicit biases can contribute to discrimination and prejudice. How does Funchess suggest we deal with implicit bias? Read Donald Yacovone’s “Textbook racism: How scholars sustained white supremacy” and describe the main points. Do you think the way history has been presented in textbooks has contributed to institutionalized prejudice? Why or why not? Do you think any textbook you have ever used has been biased?
