Hello
1. What would a subjective moral relativist say about what this doctor is doing? Do you agree with the subjective moral relativist? Why or why not?
The subjective moral relativist would do what the patient wants to be done if the patient believes that the right thing is for him or her. Since in this scenario, the parents are making the decision for their young child I believe that the moral relativist will go ahead with the procedure since they got an O.K from the parents. But that’s what the parents believe they should let the daughters grow up and make their own choices and decisions.
2. Examine what a cultural moral relativist would say here. Do you agree with the cultural relativist? Why or why not?
The culture moral relativist would agree to do this procedure because this is the only thing the parents know since they know this as being normal the culture moral relativist would see nothing wrong with this. And since this is the right thing to do or at least the family thinks it is the nurse will participate in the surgery. Society has many different points of view on all things everybody sees things differently some people might disagree with the nurse but after all, she is doing her job.
3. Name and evaluate general criticisms of cultural relativism as being the wrong moral approach.
When it comes to different criticisms of cultural relativism they are telling people that there is no wrong or right answer for the moral approach. Making a judgment is meaningless and people will believe what they want to believe.
4. Is there an objective moral truth about any of the possible actions by the nurse and/or doctor in this case? Why or why not?
The nurse has to decide what’s best for the patient. If the nurse disagrees with what the patient wants she should educate them. Putting the educational background behind her thinking will help the nurse understand where the patient is coming from. If the patient wants something done and the nurse knows it will not benefit the patient she should tell them.
