Content should be written using direct and concise scholarly language fowling APA format. All work should be thorough, concise, and logical; supported with evidence as needed.
Please use the EBTP paper template provided in Week 2 for NU 690 Ch. 1-3 and Abstract (for the weeks 4 and 7 papers) as a guide and continue using it in NU 691 Ch. 4-6 for the week 6 paper.

CH 1: INTRODUCTION (use a level 1 heading)

• Identify a problem or issue related to nursing education, and provide rationale as to why the issue selected should be explored
o To accomplish this, conduct an assessment of what is occurring in education based on the specific setting and in studies and professional literature/organizations – the preceptor and your professor can offer suggestions re: what may need to be added, amended, revised, updated in the organization based on professional and scholarly work)
o Length – one to two paragraphs
• Substantiate the issue with both external and internal evidence.
o External evidence is specific data that is cited to substantiate the need to explore the issue and for the project.
 Provide external references to support the issue presents and is relevance – i.e. peer reviewed studies, professional organizations, regulatory and accreditation benchmarks, to support your statements. i.e. Low NCLEX pass-rates, low achievement of program outcomes, changing student demographics, changing educational or economic conditions, etc.
 Length – one to two paragraphs
o Internal evidence identifies specific data from the setting to substantiate the need to explore the issue and develop an improvement project.
 Include at least one piece of specific piece of internal evidence from the setting that indicates the issue is identified is occurring in the setting.
 The issue, evidence, and outcome (in the PSCOT question, and evaluation of project should logically align). The internal evidence is specific to the setting, (i.e. new program, improvement for program outcomes, issue with end of course evaluations, absence of adjunct faculty orientation, low NCLEX first time pass rates, recommendation not currently in place, desired improvement, impending accreditation visit)
 The evidence should be measurable.
 Length – two or three sentences is adequate and may be from a personal communication from preceptor if data is not publicly available
Organization Mission/Strategic Plan (use level 2 heading):
• Briefly identify how the project fits/aligns with the organization’s mission or strategic plan with a reference(s) (length a couple of sentences).
• Most organizations want to know how the project aligns with the mission before they will approve it and provide resources (including money and staff).
Problem Statement Written Using PSCOT Question (use a level 2 heading):
• Provide PSCOT question (using PSCOT format – must be in the form of a question
o (PSCOT format is used for education focused questions, with S representing the strategy; where as PICOT format is used for clinical focused questions where I represents the intervention).

• Length – one sentence
Chapter 1 should be approx. 1-2 pages in length
CH. 2: METHOD – (use a level 1 heading)
The first part of ch. 2 is included with the week 4 paper, and then chapter 2 is continued in the week 7 paper
This chapter comprises the major content of the evidence review and includes the subsections SearchProtocol, Evidence Table, and Evidence Synthesis. Each section is described below.
When completing Evidence Table and Evidence Synthesis focus on the following variables of your PSCOT question:

● S=which strategies were used?
● C= which comparative strategies were used? Have there been studies comparing the two strategies (S and O)?
● O= what data exist related the outcome? Are there tools that exist that measure the outcome?

The purpose of the Evidence Table is analyze and appraise the pieces of evidence that are included from the search conducted.
When writing the Narrative of the Evidence Syhthesis the goal is to provide a high end summary of the evidence included in Evidence Table to answer the PSCOT question. various evidence into a logical coherent whole, and
Apply what you have found in the evidence review question to develop a QI project that addresses the issue
To be considered for publication or presentation the evidence review must be current, relevant to nursing education (students, staff, colleagues, patients), of interest to educators, and the literature search must be thorough (all relevant evidence should be included).
Search Protocol (use a level 2 heading):
This provides a description of how you searched and selected evidence for review (this should be written prior to beginning the evidence search)
The following information should be included in the description of the search protocol:
1. Search engines, and databases used and how you searched them i.e. strategy for each database and what they returned
2. Years searched
3. Key search terms – be sure to include alternate terms for keywords in PSCOT or you will miss relevant evidence
4. Indicate specific criteria for inclusion (in evidence review)
5. Number of articles located, number of articles included in review
6. How you screened and reviewed titles, abstracts, and articles for consideration of inclusion. Include the statement: Tools are used to guide the appraisal of evidence.
You can use the following statement to begin writing this section of your paper:
A search was conducted of the following data bases ……….using the search terms ……………The inclusion criteria was ………………. The years searched were…………………… X articles were identified and critically appraised using the JHEBP Model (Dang et al., 2022).
To minimize bias the description of your search should be in enough detail that the reader should be able to reproduce the search and arrive at the same findings based on the protocol description.
1. Focus on searching for studies. Consider the following questions when determining if you should include the piece of evidence in your evidence review. Does the evidence directly answer the PSCOT question? (if no, do not include).
2. Are the results applicable to my population? (if no, do not include).
If the answer to any of these questions is “no”, no need to read the full article and you can eliminate it.
The literature search protocol should be approx. 1/2 of a page in length.
EVIDENCE TABLE (use a level 2 heading):
Be sure to refer to the Articles/Resources section of the syllabus for additional examples and direction for the JHEBP tools.
• The evidence table is part of the METHODS chapter, Use JHEBP APPENDIX G as your evidence table. The evidence returned from the search that met the inclusion criteria will be appraised and placed in JHEBP Appendix G.
o Include as an appendix in your paper.
o In your paper template, per APA format, this table will be labeled as Appendix A.
o In the body of the paper under the level 2 heading Evidence Table – you can write Refer to Appendix A.
o When completing Appendix G, under the category Evidence Type, please include the Purpose of the Study as this will help discern relevance for inclusion.
• For each piece of evidence, use Appendices D, E, and F (which are the JHEBP tools for evaluating and appraising evidence, which aim to foster rigor and objectivity of the review).
o Appendix D will help you determine the level and quality of the evidence,
o while Appendix E or F, depending if the evidence is research or nonresearch, is used appraise and extract the data from the piece of evidence that you will add to Appendix G.
 Complete one tool, either E or F depending if it is research or nonresearch, for each piece of evidence considered/evaluated (please do not submit tools but keep copies for verification of appraisal of evidence for publication or presentation).
• Exhaust your search of the data bases for relevant evidence, contact the SHU librarian for help if needed.
• Aim to locate 8-10 (pieces of relevant evidence, include more if you locate more).
o If you are unable to locate 6 pieces of relevant evidence to answer your PSCOT question, please contact your professor.
• Length – approx. 2-5 pages in length (will vary depending on the number of pieces of evidence you found.).
