Too Tired? Too Anxious? Need More Time? We’ve got your back.
Art moves ideas from the mind into the world (Sachant, 6). Art reflects the way we communicate and express ourselves. Everything that is man-made started in the eye of an artist. Clothes, cars, cell phones, furniture, painting, sculpture, video, film, etc. So, how do we define art? Who is considered an artist and what does that mean? What is the role of the viewer? And, why do we make art?
Think about the following questions and write out some reflections that come to you. Consider the reading from the textbook and make sure to quote from it as well as the required online text.
Art IS _________. Art ISN’T __________. What are your personal thoughts based on what you believe after reading Chapter 1?
What is the difference between art and craft? Should there be a distinction?
What criteria, qualities, or properties define a work of art for you?
Why do artists make art? What drives people to be creative? Give some examples.
Discuss how appreciating a work of art is governed by personal taste and how art can be experienced personally by one person and yet similarly, but differently, by another.
Do you think there are any universal or shared responses we have to art?
Taking into consideration the above questions, write a 500-WORD discussion board on what you think art is or isn’t, and explain your choices. Use the questions above as a jumping off point – do not literally answer them. Be sure to use 2 quotes or more in your response from both the textbook and the online text.
Utilize the five-point essay structure to organize your thoughts and writing. This will help immensely.
