Across the first two modules in this course, you have reviewed theory and research on violent victimization. You’ve also had the opportunity to explore the application of theory and research to specific types of violent victimization. In this midterm assignment, you will build upon this previous exploration by developing an in-depth training for law enforcement on the violent victimization type that you have chosen to focus on during this course.
You will provide a presentation on the impact of offender-victim relationships (e.g., spouse, relative, ex, employee, stranger, etc.) on the type of violent victimization, identify and discuss two types of offender-victim relationships as they relate to one victimization type of your choice, and how those different relationships may affect theoretical application and risk factors.
Instructions
Develop a PowerPoint presentation designed to educate law enforcement on the theoretical explanation and risk factors for your selected violent victimization type. In your presentation, be sure to:
Begin with an introduction that defines the violent victimization type and provides relevant statistics such as overall prevalence rates.
Describe the sociodemographic groups that are at highest risk for experiencing this type of violent victimization.
Explore the individual risk factors apart from sociodemographic factors that increase the likelihood of experiencing this type of violent victimization.
Include situational risk factors that increase the likelihood of experiencing this type of violent victimization.
Provide two offender-victim relationships that exist for this type of violent victimization.
Explain similarities and differences in risk factors based on the offender-victim relationship. Specify which risk factors are the same across to two offender-victim relationships and which risk factors are different across the two offender-victim relationships.
Discuss one theory that applies to your selected violent victimization type and provide examples of how this theory explains the violent victimization across the two victim-offender relationships.
If applicable, you may discuss the “ideal victim” and the offender-victim overlap as it relates to this type of violent victimization.
Length: 10-12 slides, not including title and reference slides. Include 250-350 words of notes per slide to serve as your transcript.
References: Support your assignment with at least 3 scholarly resources.
The completed assignment should address all the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course.
