Standard Performance Objective: To Report Illegal and/or Unsafe Activities and Behaviors That Affect Health, Safety, and Welfare of Others to the Proper Authorities; Apply Ethical Behaviors Including Honesty/Integrity in Performances of Medical Assisting Practice
Conditions under which the student is expected to perform the Task: Complete as homework assignment or as assigned by instructor with a minimum score of 70%. Turn in on or before due date.
Assignment: Using the scenarios below, document the steps you would take to report the situation. Give a complete written description of the event including, date, time of incident, individuals involved and the name of the supervisor you reported the incident to. Turn in your written description to your Instructor on or before the specified due date.
Scenario 1: One day at work a medical assistant you work with asks you to do her a favor and clean Exam Room 5 because she was going to lunch and didn’t have time. When you went into the exam room, lying on the counter next to the sink is the patient’s chart, a used syringe, several bloody cotton balls, and the half full bottle of narcotic medication she used for the patient.
Scenario 2: On Monday morning you and another medical assistant arrive at work at the same time. You both walk into the lab together and he says “Gee, I forgot to put these immunizations back in the refrigerator last Friday, oh well, I’ll just put them back now, they will get cold before any patients get here” He puts them back into the refrigerator and walks away.
