Paper & Presentation
Learning to present information in oral and written forms are important parts of the training
required for work in a professional environment. Thus, each student is to complete one writing
assignment (explained below) (20% of course grade) and make a video presentation (10% of
course grade) regarding their paper.
Study and Analyze a Government or Non-Profit Technology Implementation – each
student will conduct research regarding a government or non-profit agency
implementing technologies (focus should be on software or automation) to solve a
societal need. Each student’s research should include the problem being solved, the
policy making process, what data and how it was collected, and were experiments or
pilot programs used prior to full implementation. If implementation never occurred,
describe why.
A timeline for the project should be included and final costs of the project as an
appendix to the paper.
The paper should be written in essay form with references.
The paper needs to include the organization/agency and the overall purpose of the
organization/agency.
The grade is based on description of the problem the organization/agency intended
to solve, the processes the organization/agency used, the identification of the
failures or successes the organization/agency experienced, the student’s opinion on
what could have been done for the organization/agency to have been more
successful, and the readability of the assignment (spelling, grammar, sentence and
paragraph construction, punctuation, etc.), and adherence to APA guidelines.
Presentation – in addition to the paper, you must submit videotaped presentation of you
reviewing the ‘findings of your project’ via a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation. Note this
presentation will be available to all students in the course. Presentations should be 10-15
minutes long. The presentation will be graded as follows: 25% clarity, 40% technical
content, 25% preparedness, and 10% format/APA usage.
