First, identify a situation that is covered in a media outlet (news website, blog, newspaper – no PR trade publications). Decide if you can spot the PR strategy and/or tactic used in the situation. Second, analyze the effectiveness of the employed PR method. The digital document will be shared and is due to be submitted to Canvas before class. Students may be asked to present their example and findings during class.
You are to identify a new story (product announcement, policy change, etc) covered in a legitimate media outlet (news website, blog, newspaper – no PR trade publications), identify the PR strategy and/or tactic used in the situation and analyze the effectiveness of the employed PR method.
Read the news. I like to go to Google News or Apple News to find product/event announcements or industry news.
Select one news story to examine. Identify a story that perhaps presents an ethical dilemma, or presents how PR is being used to communicate a message. For example, CNN reports that a drug manufacturer is close to releasing a vaccine. How do you think PR was used to land this article? Is there a quote from a spokesperson in the article? What does it say?
