The global eco-tourism market was valued at US$176 Billion in 2020, with Asia Pacific accounting for 35% (Million Insights, 2022). As a key travel destination, analysts have forecasted US$4.7 Billion in travel and tourism earnings for the Philippines by 2025 (Statista, 2022).
Our project will explore the drivers affecting market demand for ethical & sustainable tourism in the Philippines. To understand local perspectives, interviews with tourists in the market (e.g., Philippines diaspora visiting family, local tourists) will be the primary data source. Public reporting on market-relevant eco-tourism trends will provide secondary data.
