What is the nature of the story?
Answer .. The story portrays the ebb and flow of a spinster’s emotions. Her heart is who is buffeted by intense grief caused by her fiance’s sudden refusal to marry her. She is overwhelmed with angst that she knows will bite her all her life. During those days, remaining a spinster was considered disgraceful for a girl. The story takes a sudden turn when the lover’s letter dismissing his earlier blunt message is received. She now asks her students to sing energetically some positive lines of the poem, when, only moments ago, she had asked the same students to read lines of pathos in a mellowed voice.
The story is one that underlines the human nature’s sensitivity and fickleness.
